Bloodlines 2 is finally being released after a difficult development process. Since its introduction in 2019, the Vampire: The Masquerade sequel has been plagued by a succession of departed leaders and moved production studios, culminating in a concerningly extended quiet from the publisher at Paradox. For years, we've been curious about what was going on with the vampire RPG.
Bloodlines 2 appears to have experienced its own dark resurrection, with the game now in the hands of The Chinese Room, the developers of Dear Esther and Everybody's Gone to the Rapture. Here's everything we know about Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2.

The Chinese Room has revealed that the first four playable vampire clans in Bloodlines 2 will be Brujha, Tremere, Banu Haqim, and Ventrue. Two additional clans will be introduced as post-launch DLC, but here's a breakdown of the original four:
Brujah: Brutal melee fighting. The Brujah are a clan of punks and outcasts that utilize their great physical power to get their point across. They are rebellious, passionate, and extremely skilled with their fists.
Tremere: Magic-based fighting. The Tremere clan's thirst of knowledge has earned them repute as a clan of warlocks and blood mages, as seen by the introduction video, in which the player picks up and throws an opponent with telekinetic skills. They can control their own blood and that of their enemies.
Banu Haqim: Stealth and assassination. The Banu Haqim are a law-enforcing clan that thirsts for the blood of other vampires and follows a rigid code of conduct to enable them exact retribution on wrongdoers.
Ventrue: Mind control fight with excellent defense. Clan Ventrue's Disciplines enable them to mentally overpower or dominate foes. As the self-proclaimed blue bloods of vampire society, Vantrues are frequently connected with rank, riches, and hold important positions in the Camarilla (vampire congress).

The plot of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 will see us playing as Phyre, an older vampire who has risen from a centuries-long hibernation to discover that the city has abandoned them. Phyre will be a completely configurable main character, with gender, look, and vampire clan all up to the player, but with an overarching narrative to tie everything together. "Choices and conversations (even outfits!) shape how the environment and characters react to Phyre, changing how the story unfolds," explains the author of The Chinese Room.

According to studio design director Alex Skidmore, "Bloodlines 2 is designed with a balance of role-playing game and adventure story." A captivating and detailed narrative reminiscent of an adventure game, but with RPG elements that allow you to live out your vampire fantasies.
The Chinese Room claims to have updated this technique, opting for a more nuanced vampire roleplay experience, so when Bloodlines 2 launches, we can anticipate "an action experience where players feel confident, almost trolling the enemies with their [vampire] disciplines." This implies that, like in the previous Bloodlines game, our selected vampire clan's strengths and weaknesses will influence how battle, feeding, and exploration operate.

In 2022, Fredrik Wester, CEO of Bloodlines 2 publisher Paradox Interactive, tweeted: "The game is in good hands." In June 2023, we learnt that there will be a significant September announcement concerning Bloodlines 2, and the prophesy came true: in September 2023, we finally learned that The Chinese Room was managing Bloodlines 2 development, with a release date of 2024.
